Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains how Hermes Media collects, uses and protects personal data through two services:
- the editorial website hermesmedia.org;
- Hermes Media Publisher, the publishing application operated by Hermes Media and registered on TikTok for Developers, which lets an authorised account holder publish Hermes Media editorial videos to their own TikTok account.
Where this policy says “Hermes Media Publisher” or “the app”, it refers to that application specifically.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Hermes Media, an independent editorial project published from France. Contact: [email protected]. This policy is governed by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and French law.
2. Data collected by the website
The website does not offer accounts, comments, checkout or contact forms, and does not ask visitors for personal information. When a page loads, our hosting and security providers process technical data needed to deliver and protect the site: IP address, browser and device type, requested page and time of access.
3. Data collected by Hermes Media Publisher
Hermes Media Publisher is used only by account holders who choose to connect their TikTok account through TikTok’s official authorisation screen (TikTok Login Kit). When you connect, and only with your explicit consent on that screen, Hermes Media Publisher receives:
- Basic profile information (scope
user.info.basic): your TikTok open ID, display name and avatar. They are used to show which account is connected before anything is published. - Publishing permission (Content Posting API, scopes
video.publishand/orvideo.upload): the right to send a video you have reviewed to your account, as a direct post or as a draft in your TikTok inbox. - Access and refresh tokens issued by TikTok, which allow Hermes Media Publisher to act within those permissions until you revoke them.
Hermes Media Publisher does not access your messages, followers, following list, likes, comments, viewing history, contacts or any content you did not choose to publish through the app.
4. How Hermes Media Publisher uses that data
- to display the connected account and its avatar before you confirm a publication;
- to upload the specific video you selected, with the caption and privacy setting you chose, to your account;
- to check the status of that upload and report success or failure to you.
Nothing is published without an explicit action from the account holder. TikTok data is never used for advertising, profiling, analytics resale or any purpose other than the publishing workflow described above.
5. Legal basis
Data processed by Hermes Media Publisher is processed on the basis of your consent, given on TikTok’s authorisation screen, and to perform the service you request (GDPR art. 6(1)(a) and (b)). Technical data processed by the website relies on our legitimate interest in delivering and securing it (art. 6(1)(f)).
6. Storage, security and retention
Access and refresh tokens are stored in an encrypted secrets store and are never displayed, logged or shared. Profile information is kept only while your account is connected. When you disconnect, or on request, tokens and profile data are deleted within 30 days. Videos you publish remain on TikTok under TikTok’s own terms; Hermes Media keeps only a publication record (date, video identifier, status) for editorial bookkeeping.
7. Sharing and processors
Hermes Media does not sell, rent or trade personal data. Data is shared only with TikTok, to perform the publication you request, and with technical providers acting on our instructions to host and run the service (website hosting and content delivery, encrypted storage, media storage). Some of these providers may process data outside the European Union under appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
8. How to disconnect Hermes Media Publisher and delete your data
You can revoke Hermes Media Publisher’s access at any time in the TikTok app: Profile › Menu › Settings and privacy › Security › Manage app permissions, then remove Hermes Media Publisher. Revocation stops all access immediately. To also request deletion of any data we hold, email [email protected] from the address linked to your request; we answer within 30 days.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and port your data, to object to its processing and to withdraw consent at any time. Write to [email protected]. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
10. Cookies and advertising on the website
Hermes Media may use Google AdSense to display advertising on the website. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to deliver and measure ads where permitted; see how Google uses information from partner sites. Advertising cookies that require consent run only after the appropriate choices are presented. Hermes Media Publisher itself sets no advertising cookies.
11. Third-party services
Your use of TikTok remains governed by the TikTok Terms of Service and the TikTok Privacy Policy. Links to Instagram, YouTube or other sites lead to services with their own privacy policies.
12. Children
The website is not directed at children under 16, and Hermes Media Publisher may only be used by adults (18 or over) who are authorised to publish to the connected account.
13. Changes
We will update the date at the top of this page whenever this policy changes. Material changes affecting Hermes Media Publisher users will be shown in the app before they take effect.
